Revvin’ Up the Revivals

Raven’s back! And she’s not the only one. Television reboots are among the most popular shows across all networks, so for those with a desire for nostalgia, grab the popcorn. Heres a look at some of the more notable television revivals.

“Degrassi: The Next Generation”

Whatever it takes, Degrassi has made it through. Back in 1979, The Kids of Degrassi Street, a melodramatic Canadian TV show premiered about a group of kids who lived on De Grassi Street in Toronto, proved to be so popular that it spawned two spinoffs in the 80s. In 2001, Degrassi was rebooted into a teenage soap-opera, gaining a whole new generation of viewers internationally. Degrassi: The Next Generation lasted 14 seasons and focused on serious issues ranging from minute drama like chain mail to more intense themes like addiction and teen pregnancy. And now Netflix is streaming Degrassi: Next Class—yet another revival.

“Fuller House”

You got it, dude! Running eight seasons, “Full House” entertained audiences with the Tanner family’s antics, including awkward romances, job losses, and day-to-day catastrophes. When Netflix announced a revival series of “Full House” last year, America went wild. Because who wouldn’t want to revisit the same San Francisco house from the ‘90s with the same nutty characters. There’s no sign Fuller House will cut it out anytime soon because the second season premieres on December 9—only 10 months after its initial release.

“The Powerpuff Girls”

The kick-ass world of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup stays alive in this new revival. “The Powerpuff Girls” reboot premiered on Cartoon Network on April 4. The show was met with mixed reviews from critics, as some people found that it didn’t live up to the series’ original quirky charm, lacking its snide adult humor and tongue-in-cheek wit. Still, the show is scheduled to release a second season next year, so you can get your Mojo Jojo on.

“Gilmore Girls”

Mark your calendars for more witty, fast-paced banter from your favorite mother-daughter duo. The beloved “Gilmore Girls” is getting a revival show on Netflix that will feature four one-hour episodes—one for each season of the year—to follow Lorelai and Rory for a year in Stars Hollow. So grab your biggest cup of coffee and get ready to binge-watch.
