Make your memories last – without the scrapbook.
I love making things—whether it is a birthday present for a friend or a new lunchtime recipe. One of my New Year’s resolutions has been to get better at doing things for myself, so when it came to organizing all of my photos and souvenirs from my semester abroad, I wanted to make something special. I knew I would never sit down and flip through a scrapbook, and to be perfectly honest, I’ve never really had the patience or commitment for scrapbooking.
Then one day while trolling Pinterest I found a collection of DIY shadow boxes, and instantly I knew – I would make my own Barcelona box of memories. If you’re interested in making your own…
You’ll need:
- Scissors
- Crazy glue
- Binder clips
- A shadow box
- Photos & mementos
- Choose a word or phrase to represent what your pictures are from. Then, start by arranging your photos in the order in which you want them to be displayed. The object is to cut each letter from a different photo, but you can switch things up and make any pattern you want.
- Attach lettering to the background of your choice and arrange ticket stubs or other souvenirs as desired. Try using binder clips or scrapbooking brackets to hold awkwardly sized items together.
Worried about your college student budget? I found my shadow box for less than $10 at Target, and Walgreens always has free (or discounted) photo printing coupons if you scour the Internet.
After everything is glued in place, you’re ready to go. Just make sure your landlord won’t have a fit before you start pounding nails into the wall.
